Lakehead University, established in 1965, is home to over 8,000 students and 2,500 staff/faculty, with campuses in Thunder Bay and Orillia, Ontario. Serving approximately 500 graduate students, the university offers students strong collaboration with advisers and colleagues. Buildings and Resources
Established in 1965, the Lakehead University campus currently consists of 38 buildings and 116 hectares of property including 40 hectares of landscaped and maintained grounds. Buildings include the $44-million Advanced Technology and Academic Centre, Health Sciences North, and the Centre for Northern Forest Ecosystem Research. The Hangar is a $6-million facility featuring an indoor track and multipurpose field with artificial turf, an aerobics/yoga studio, a weight room and fitness centre, and a sports medicine clinic. Lakehead is reducing its environmental footprint through a variety of inititaves, including the new LEED Platinum Orillia campus building currently under construction.
